What to Expect

Please allow up to three hours for your appointment as the steps involved in your consultation may vary in duration depending on your appointment type. Your comprehensive appointment may include an assessment by an ophthalmic technician, diagnostic imaging/testing, your doctor’s examination and possible course of treatment.

We understand that visiting a hospital can be anxiety inducing, please rest assured that we are committed to your safety and wellbeing. Our members of staff will be available throughout your appointment to answer any questions you may have.

Your Appointment Will Consist of These Steps:

  1. Arrival and Registration (15 minutes): Please arrive for your scheduled appointment time and check in at the reception desk. Here you will begin the registration process, which will include updating your health insurance and payment information. Our accepted payment methods and approved TPA providers are listed here.
  2. Ophthalmic Technician Initial Assessment (60 minutes): After registration, you will be called for your preliminary assessment by one of our ophthalmic technicians. This will take around 30 minutes and during this time eye drops will be administered to dilate your eyes. After the administration of eye drops, it can take another 30 minutes for your eyes to be fully dilated.
  3. Diagnostic Imaging and Testing (60 minutes, depending on type of imaging and/or testing required)
  4. Your Doctor’s examination (15 to 45 minutes based upon the complexity of your eye condition): Your doctor will examine your eyes, explain the diagnosis and treatment. They will also address your questions or concerns.
  5. Additional Consultation: If you need to be referred to  another superspeciality within the eye department, like retinal or corneal services, you will be directed to those services.
  6. Treatment (30 minutes): Based upon your doctor’s diagnosis, additional treatments may be performed.
